Hear Her Now: Finding Her Power

Women everywhere are stepping into their own power. Whether by chance or by choice, now is the time to step up, speak out, be heard, and find your way.

“When I trust myself and my intuition, it allows me
to grow in confidence and step into my own power.
Stepping into my own power allows me to use my voice,
share my talents,
and create positive ripples
in the lives of the people we reach.” ~ Cathy Davis

The chapters within have all been written by women who have followed their own path—even when that path may have been unexpected—with dips and turns, or mountains and valleys. Each has found their own way through trials and tribulations, and are a tribute to women everywhere who may be in the middle of a struggle, or who have found their way through the latest darkness—stronger for the journey, and wiser for the experience.

May you find yourself and your strength, within the power of these stories.

Kristy Barton was born and raised in southern Wisconsin. In middle school, her family moved out to Cheyenne, Wyoming. She lived out west until she left for college—University of Missouri (Mizzou). She earned her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in history.

Kristy started her journalism career at a young age. While lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons in both high school and college, Kristy managed the PR/Marketing needs for the Parks and Recreation’s Swim Department in Cheyenne. After college, she freelanced for a bit until she landed her dream job in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the PR Director for an area Union for 18 years. While she was working for the Union, she embarked on many adventures. She started an in-house PR Department staff of one. In the 1990s, there was still a stigma in many Unions that women couldn’t hold a higher position other than being a secretary. Kristy not only built the PR Department she also developed and maintained a monthly magazine, created slogans that would eventually become trademarked, and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for numerous charities and organizations.

In January 2015, Kristy embarked on one of her craziest ideas to-date, she started her own business: Sunshine Multimedia Consultants—a full-service PR/Marketing firm. The first year was rough, but by year two, Kristy was making a name for herself throughout the community. In the last few years, she has won numerous awards including the Webster Groves/Shrewsbury/Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding New Chamber Member, and back-to-back awards from the Small Business Monthly for being one of the Top 20 Best PR Firms in St. Louis.

While her business and home life are going extremely well, the only missing piece is the wait to adopt a child. As they say, that chapter has yet to be written. Kristy@sunshinemultimediallc.com, www.Sunshinemultimediallc.com, www.facebook.com/Sunshine-Multimedia-Consultants-LLC

Anna-Marie Beard is an ordinary mom of two extraordinary boys, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. Life took an adventurous turn when she and her husband Brian adopted their two little boys from Korea.

She spends her time in transportation (as she drives her son to a school for autism two hours away), yoga, writing, and taking care of her family. She regards her three boys as her greatest gifts and writes about the Good that comes during both the hards and highs of life on their family blog: www.pursuingtob.com.

With a bachelor’s degree in secondary education English and a master’s in English, she taught high school and college writing. She also worked as a creative director for her church. She has been featured on the Prentke Romich Company blog (https://www.prentrom.com/articles/tob-worlds-creating-words?mode=view&header=caregivers) and is a frequent contributor to the AAC Language Lab blog: https://aaclanguagelab.com/blog/better where she shares the real-life experiences of their nonverbal son’s progress on his communication device.

A recovering perfectionist, Anna-Marie devotes her time and her writing to pursuing “tob,” the Hebrew word meaning “good” or “goodness.” The imperfect. The dynamic. The messy. She examines her life to find the wonder, growth, and love that come from some of the messiest, vulnerable moments and then shares those moments with the world because she believes the sacred spaces are in the midst of hard. In the simple moments of the everyday. The mountains and the valleys. Her work is an attempt to live a life in constant pursuit of the Good. www.pursuingtob.com, a-m.beard@outlook.com, www.instagram.com/anna-marieandbrian, www.youtube.com/channel/UCa84Jf-c7ENdrVuJ5h8Rw6g
